Protocols, like the Internet Protocol (IP) and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), are the lifeblood of digital communications. They ensure that messages are sent and received in the right format, to the right place, and in the right order. Without protocols, our computers, smartphones, and other Internet-connected devices wouldn't be able to communicate with each other.
For instance, when you type a URL into your web browser, you're using the HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). This protocol fetches the webpage from the server and delivers it to your browser.
There are numerous types of protocols used in networking, including:
TCP/IP: This stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, and it's the basic communication language or protocol of the internet.
HTTP/HTTPS: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is used for transferring data over the web. HTTPS (HTTP Secure) is the secure version of HTTP.
FTP: File Transfer Protocol is used to transfer files from one host to another over the internet.
SMTP: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is the standard for email transmission on the internet.
