forecasts and swift responses to changing road conditions.
The use of an RWIS is instrumental in maintaining road safety and efficient traffic management. Extreme weather
conditions can dramatically affect road safety. By providing real-time, location-specific weather and road condition
information, an RWIS assists in proactive decision-making for road maintenance and closure activities. It helps to avoid
road accidents, improve response times, and minimize the impact on traffic flow.
An RWIS consists of various components such as weather stations, pavement sensors, data processing units, and
communication systems. The weather stations and pavement sensors collect data, which is then transmitted to a central
