Moving further into our glossary, we encounter the virtual private cloud (VPC). A VPC is a segregated, virtualized environment in a public cloud, where resources are exclusively reserved for a single user. It provides the convenience and flexibility of the public cloud, but with more privacy and security, like a private cloud.
In a VPC, users can define their own network architecture, controlling aspects like IP address range, subnets, and configuration of route tables and network gateways. For example, a business might use a VPC to host a website accessible to the public while maintaining a secure backend for sensitive operations.
Finally, understanding the difference between 'private cloud vs public cloud' is crucial to grasp the concept fully. The main difference lies in how resources are allocated and who has access to these resources.
In a public cloud, the service provider makes resources, like applications and storage, available to the general public over the internet. These resources are shared among multiple users and are ideal for non-sensitive operations.
On the other hand, a private cloud is exclusively for a single organization, offering higher levels of security and privacy.
